Biology Centre CAS, is a national public research institution founded in 2006 by the Czech Academy of Sciences. With its five research institutes and more than 800 employees it ranks among the largest scientific centres engaged in environmentally oriented research in Europe.
The Biology Centre of the CAS focuses on research on wild and parasitic organisms, their interactions and their impact on ecosystems and other organisms, including humans, at the level of molecules, cells, organisms and ecosystems. The knowledge gained contributes to a better understanding of biological phenomena in nature and has impacts on agriculture, forestry, fisheries, human health, veterinary medicine and other areas of life. Through its results, the Biology Centre develops trends that respond to issues of global importance and sustainability of life on Earth. For example, Biology Center staff have been significantly involved in the fight against covid-19, both through testing of patient samples and research projects. They also coordinate long-term projects that aim to preserve the natural environment and biodiversity.
