National Instituce for Cancer Research (NICR) is the largest academic oncology project in the Czech Republic to date, helping Czech cancer research to make the most of the available research infrastructure and human potential. By linking 11 institutions from Prague, Brno and Olomouc that conduct excellent basic, applied and clinical research in oncology, a unique nationwide network of 70 research groups has been created.
Cancer research, which accounts for approximately 25% of all biomedical research in the Czech Republic, has a long tradition in this country and its current results are above average in international comparison. With the establishment of the NICR, cancer research at national level is becoming much better coordinated, more strategic and more efficient, which will increase its quality and international competitiveness. One of the objectives of the NICR is also to disseminate results and findings to the general and professional public and to provide expertise to government authorities.
